S.U.C.C.E.E.D. Connections Adult Life Skills Essential Skills Training Program – 20 weeks

• Life Skills training includes but is not limited to the following topics: basic household management, budgeting, personal management, decision making, dealing with emotions, and developing basic numeracy & literacy skills following the guidelines of Essential Skills. Workshops with Canadian Mental Health and other community organizations will take place during this level focusing on areas of health and well-being.
• Participants will become familiar with the 9 Essential Skills, take self-assessments, and complete activities to increase their skill level in each one.
• Participants will begin to examine a career plan and goals for their future. Participants will be introduced to Career Quiz Interests and job research.  They will complete a Path to Employment workshop which includes preparing for work, recognizing their transferable skills, their values, interests, creating a resume and cover letters, filling out applications, learning interview techniques, tips to keeping a job and development of a career portfolio. 
• Participants will be able to take part in all certificate training opportunities.
• For the participants that are not ready for the work experience component there will be an opportunity to volunteer in the community.
• For the participants that are taking part in the work experience, mentor support will be available to individuals requiring more guidance than the employer is able to manage. The mentor will provide individuals support throughout the work experience portion and assist in the transition from the program into employment or training.
